Windows xp on amd athlon 64 x2

I have been using Windows XP Professional x64 for a while now without any driver problems; in my opinion, the problem is lack of bit applications. Bad support in this case refers to the lose of Windows' single greatest strength: That it's the most compatible OS. Meaning you're not fully receiving what you paid for. More power to you if you know how much power you're getting and can afford it. I was just curious if you were buying that much power for something in particular.

Mainly gaming to be honest, I do a lot of file moves and store a lot of data etc. Sometimes I take CAD drawings home from work and work on them etc. Lots of things really nothing specific :. Coup coup. Have you ever used SketchUp? I was introduced to it when I was working on an M. I think it's one of the best apps I've ever used. It's great for making your ideas tangible. Search In. Nope just drivers. All the other apps run in 32 bit emulation mode. Toastyone Posted April 30, Thanks for everything guys. In order to install the bit x64 version of SQL Server you need to be running a bit x64 version of Windows though you can install the bit version on a bit OS.

When you install Enterprise Edition on a client OS ie. Windows XP you will not be able to install the Server components. Server components require a Server OS. This is the reason you are only given the option of installing "Tools, Books Online, and Samples". Fortunately this has nothing to do with your hardware setup, but rather a limitation of the Operating System you have installed. I believe you can install most Server components from the Developer Edition.

Some components such as Service Broker will not install as they require the kernal level HTTP listener, which isn't available in Windows XP, but then again this doesn't help you unless you have access to the Developer Edition. I believe you can download or purchase an Evaulation Edition of Windows Server which you could install on your system, either as a seperate partitioned install or by installing in a Virtual Client environment, which you should have no problems running given your specific hardware setup.

As for an error message, I'm not getting any error message at all I just am not getting the option to install the server itself, only the client and connectivity tools.

Am I doing something wrong? I don't see an option to try to install a 32 or 64 bit version. Thanks a lot for the timely and detailed response. This really helps. That's probably a better place for it anyway. If setup is launched from the Servers folder you can install everything.

I just re-read your original post and saw you mentioned you inserted your Eval DVD and was only given the option of installing Tools. I'm not sure what was goign on there, but if you manually launched Setup from the Servers folder on the DVD you should have been able to install everything. Seems strange though, that you'd be presented with the Tools only install splash screen.

I'll have to hunt me up a dual core AMD machine to try this out on. The content you requested has been removed.
